Everyone can remember where they were when they heard the news. As two planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, the impact reverberated through the hearts and minds of every citizen in the United States.
In the days that followed, people from all over the country made their way to New York to help in any way they could. And as a nation we were unified in our willingness to help our fellow citizens.
Now 10 years have passed and local members of AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteer In Service To America) program through The Center for the School of the Future have organized a 24-hour day of service to commemorate the events of September 11, 2001.
The project is designed to encourage members of the community to organize their own projects and recruit volunteers from their neighborhoods, churches, book clubs, etc. to participate in service for as many hours as they can during the 24 hour period. In conjunction with these projects, CSF has organized several other service projects community members can participate in for as much time as they have available.
All members of the public are invited to attend the Day of Service Opening Ceremony Saturday, September 10th at 9 am at the Historical Cache County Court House. The ceremony will include a flag ceremony, guest speakers, and music provided by groups from the armed forces. Then volunteers will be dismissed to service projects which will continue throughout the day and night.
The Day of Service Closing Ceremony will be held Sunday, September 11th at 8 am and will include a thank you breakfast and program featuring inspirational speakers, a moment of silence and an impact wall where volunteers can record their experiences with the day of service and reflections on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Those who volunteer during the day of service will receive complimentary tickets to the breakfast. All other community members who wish to attend can purchase tickets in advance on this site or the day of for $3 each.
